Most people think auctioneering begins when the hammer falls.
It doesn’t.
Long before the first bid is called, there are inspections, valuations, documentation, compliance checks, stakeholder engagements and countless professional decisions that determine whether an auction delivers real value.
The hammer is simply the moment everyone sees.

The real work happens long before then.
Over the past few months, I’ve had the privilege of engaging with practitioners, institutions and stakeholders who are committed to raising the standards of asset recovery and auctioneering in Nigeria.

One thing has become increasingly clear:
The future of this profession will not be defined only by the assets we dispose of, but by the systems we build, the trust we earn and the standards we uphold.

There are important conversations our industry needs to have.
Conversations about professionalism.
Digital transformation.
Transparency.
Environmental responsibility.
Public trust.
Institutional reform.
Those conversations are coming.
Soon.
The future of auctioneering deserves more than transactions. It deserves thoughtful dialogue.
