Beyond the Hammer

Beyond the Hammer – The Conversation Has Begun. Now Nigeria Must Pay Attention.

Over the past few days, the Nigeria Association of Auctioneers (NAA) has taken a principled stand on an issue that goes to the heart of transparency, due process and public accountability in the disposal of forfeited assets.

Our concerns are not about personalities or institutions. They are about protecting the integrity of a process that should inspire public confidence and comply with the law.

That position has now received significant national attention, with our advocacy featured across multiple national media platforms, including Leadership, Vanguard, Daily Asset, Security Monitor, Apex News Exclusive, Aluta News and other news platforms.
However, media coverage is only the beginning. In line with our constitutional responsibility to advance and protect professional auctioneering practice in Nigeria, the Association has also formally engaged the appropriate legislative authorities. Petitions and policy communications have been submitted to the National Assembly, calling attention to issues that deserve careful legislative consideration.

This conversation is bigger than auctioneers.
It is about strengthening institutions.
It is about protecting public assets.
It is about ensuring that transparency is never sacrificed for convenience.

Over the next few days, I will be sharing the various publications, official documents and policy perspectives that have shaped this engagement. I encourage practitioners, legal professionals, public officers, journalists, policymakers and every Nigerian interested in good governance to read them, engage constructively and lend their voices to this important national conversation.

Professional institutions exist not merely to represent their members, but to safeguard standards that ultimately serve the public interest.

The hammer is only the final act.
The real work happens long before the sale.
That is why this conversation matters.
